Adina Nursery Philosophy
The Adina Nursery is a calm nurturing home away from home, where the children are respected and their individual needs catered for by a supportive team of educators. Open communication and family input is welcomed and valued, creating an environment which feels safe and nurturing. The Adina Nursery provides an open ended program where all children can have the opportunity to shine through play which is seen as integral to the development of children and fostering a strong sense of identity.
Each child’s sense of belonging and comfort is prioritised, by establishing trusted relationships with the children, engaging in their play and comforting them. The nursery educators create secure attachments with the children and enjoy their company, valuing each child as a strong capable individual. The children are guided by their educators and are encouraged to explore the world around them and make new discoveries.
Statement of Commitment to Child Safety
Alfred Academy ELC is committed to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment where all children are protected from harm, abuse, and neglect. We uphold the rights, wellbeing, and dignity of every child and always act in their best interests.
This Statement of Commitment applies to all educators, leaders, volunteers, students, contractors, families, and anyone acting on behalf of Alfred Academy ELC.
All team members are expected to maintain professional and respectful relationships with children and families, support inclusion and cultural safety, respect confidentiality, and follow all child protection laws, policies, and procedures.
All educators and staff have a legal and ethical responsibility to protect children from harm. Any concerns, suspicions, observations, or disclosures relating to abuse or neglect must be reported immediately in line with Alfred Academy ELC’s reporting procedures and mandatory reporting obligations.
Staff are also required to intervene if they witness unsafe, inappropriate, or prohibited behaviour. Prohibited behaviour includes any form of physical, emotional, psychological, or sexual harm to a child, grooming behaviours, discrimination, intimidation, verbal abuse, corporal punishment, neglect, or failure to report child safety concerns.
Staff and volunteers must never misuse their position of trust or act in any way that could place a child at risk. When responding to a child’s disclosure of abuse, educators must listen calmly and respectfully, reassure the child that they are believed and not at fault, and explain that the information may need to be shared to help keep them safe. Children must always be treated with care, empathy, and respect.
All educators and team members are required to read, understand, and comply with this Statement of Commitment during orientation and through ongoing annual reviews. Breaches of this commitment may result in disciplinary action, legal consequences, or termination of employment.
